Assistant Professor in Public International Law, and Head of the Cultural Relations, International Office, Erbil Polytechnic University. Yassen received a PhD in International Refugee Law at Newcastle University, an LLM with Merit in Public International Law from the University of Leicester, a postgraduate diploma in International Law from the University of Nottingham, and an LL.B with Honours from the University of Derby. Yassen is an external legal expert in the field of international protection for the European Asylum Support Office (EASO), Researcher for the Ref Arab project at the Faculty of Law, University of Oslo and Independent Monitoring Officer at SEEFAR/the Migrant Project in the KRI. Yassen is also country expert on citizenship for GLOBALCIT based at the European University Institute and Iraqi consultant for UNESCO Institute for lifelong learning. Yassen has published several papers in the field of forced migration, refugees, and minority rights, and also participated in national and international conferences, workshops and seminars.
