Short Bio

Wolfram Sparber is Head of the Institute for Renewable Energy since its foundation in 2005. In recent years his research focus was on overall energy system modelling and electrification of transport. The objective of the activities is to create a better understand for the necessary steps and accelerate the energy transition and transport decarbonization.  

On European level he acts as President of the Association of European Renewable Energy Research Centers (https://eurec.be/ ) since January 2024. From 2011 till 2019 he was active as Vice President of the European Technology and Innovation Platform Renewable Heating and Cooling (https://www.rhc-platform.org/ ). Wolfram Sparber is further member of the Clean Energy Industrial Forum chaired by the Directorate General for Energy of the European Commission.

On industrial side he is member of the Advisory Board of the renewable energy utility Alperia (https://www.alperiagroup.eu) since 2019. From 2016 till 2019 he was Chairman of the Executive Board of Alperia and from 2011 till 2015 he was President of the former company group SEL spa. Further more he served several years as President of the Board of Directors of  SEL - ENEL joint venture SE Hydropower and later as President of the Advisory Board of the Alperia - DolomitiEnergia joint venture PVB Bulgaria. 

Wolfram has a background in Applied Physics at Graz University of Technology, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and Fraunhofer ISE. He further followed executive programs at Malik Management (St. Gallen), Stanford Business School (California), SDA Bocconi (Milan).
