MummyLabs

The Institute for Mummy Studies of Eurac Research is a centre made up of experts working different disciplines ranging from, molecular biology, physical anthropology and conservation technology. Ten years after its foundation, the institute has become one of the leading research centres in Europe with steadily increasing number of research projects, funding and staff. This successful institute’s development resulted in an increased demand for more laboratory space. Currently, the laboratories of the Institute are operating on full capacity and are located in various structures of the Province (Bolzano and Merano).

With the proposed project, we intend not only to overcome these limits but also to develop a highly competitive research centre of excellence within the NOI techpark.

The two main project objectives are:

>The setup of four new laboratories of the Institute for Mummy Studies: laboratory for ancient DNA, laboratory for modern DNA, laboratory of Anthropology, laboratory of Conservation, (planning, technical organization, supplying equipment, testing, authorization);

>To further promote the expertise of the center to European and international stakeholders; the new facilities will be open to research, training, education (Master, PhD) and external analysis services, (molecular, anthropological, production of display windows for conservation)
